# Nils Dencker

**Nils Jonas Dencker** (born 14 December 1953 in [Lund](/source/Lund)) is a Swedish mathematician. Dencker earned his doctorate from [Lund University](/source/Lund_University) in 1981 under supervision of [Lars Hörmander](/source/Lars_H%C3%B6rmander), and is a professor of mathematics at Lund University. From 1981 until 1983, he was the [C. L. E. Moore instructor](/source/C._L._E._Moore_instructor) at the [Massachusetts Institute of Technology](/source/Massachusetts_Institute_of_Technology).[1]

He won the 2005 [Clay Research Award](/source/Clay_Research_Award) for his proof of the [Nirenberg–Treves conjecture](/source/Nirenberg%E2%80%93Treves_conjecture).[2]

Dencker has been a member of the [Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences](/source/Royal_Swedish_Academy_of_Sciences) since 2008. He was an invited speaker at the [European Congress of Mathematics](/source/European_Congress_of_Mathematics) in Amsterdam in 2008, and at the [International Congress of Mathematicians](/source/International_Congress_of_Mathematicians) in [Hyderabad](/source/Hyderabad), India, in 2010.[3] In 2012 he became a fellow of the [American Mathematical Society](/source/American_Mathematical_Society).[4]
