**Nikopol Municipality** (Bulgarian: Община Никопол) is a [municipality](/source/Municipalities_of_Bulgaria) (*[obshtina](/source/Obshtina)*) in the northern part of [Pleven Province](/source/Pleven_Province), in northern [Bulgaria](/source/Bulgaria). It is named after its administrative centre - the town of [Nikopol](/source/Nikopol,_Bulgaria). The municipality embraces a territory of 415.9 km2 (160.6 sq mi)[1][2] with a population, as of December 2009, of 10,602 inhabitants.[3]

Its northern border is by the [Danube River](/source/Danube_River), bordering with [Turnu Măgurele](/source/Turnu_M%C4%83gurele) municipality of [Romania](/source/Romania). The municipality also borders with [Belene Municipality](/source/Belene_Municipality) on the East, [Livski](/source/Levski_municipality) and [Pordim](/source/Pordim_Municipality) municipalities on the South, [Pleven municipality](/source/Pleven_municipality) on the Southwest and [Gulyantsi Municipality](/source/Gulyantsi_Municipality) on the West.

Besides the Danube, which defines the [hydrography](/source/Hydrography) of the area, the [Osam](/source/Osam) river and some minor rivers flow within the municipality.[2]

There are plans to develop common cultural tourism program that encompass the Nikopol and Turnu Măgurele municipalities. Unlike Turnu Măgurele, Nikopol municipality has poorly developed tourism infrastructure.[4]
