# Nicky Mohan

**Nicholas Mohan** (born 6 October 1970) is an English former professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)) making 390 league appearances for seven clubs during his 15-year Football League career.

He most notably spent time in the [Premier League](/source/Premier_League) with both [Middlesbrough](/source/Middlesbrough_F.C.) and [Leicester City](/source/Leicester_City_F.C.), as well as spells in the [Football League](/source/Football_League) with [Hull City](/source/Hull_City_A.F.C.), [Bradford City](/source/Bradford_City_A.F.C.), [Wycombe Wanderers](/source/Wycombe_Wanderers_F.C.) and [Stoke City](/source/Stoke_City_F.C.). He also played non-league football for [Gateshead](/source/Gateshead_F.C.), [Harrogate Town](/source/Harrogate_Town_F.C.), [Spennymoor United](/source/Spennymoor_United_F.C.), [Thornaby](/source/Thornaby_F.C.), [Bishop Auckland](/source/Bishop_Auckland_F.C.), [Stokesley](/source/Stokesley_Sports_Club_F.C.) and [Guisborough Town](/source/Guisborough_Town_F.C.).

## Playing career

Born in [Middlesbrough](/source/Middlesbrough), Mohan started out as a trainee at his hometown club [Middlesbrough](/source/Middlesbrough_F.C.) where he spent the first seven years of his career making a total of 99 games scoring four goals. He spent a period on loan at [Hull City](/source/Hull_City_A.F.C.) in 1992 where he played five games.

Mohan left Teesside in 1994 to join [Leicester City](/source/Leicester_City_F.C.) for £330,000. He played just one season at [Filbert Street](/source/Filbert_Street) appearing in 23 games before he was one of three Leicester players, along with [Ian Ormondroyd](/source/Ian_Ormondroyd) and [Gavin Ward](/source/Gavin_Ward_(footballer)) to be signed by [Chris Kamara](/source/Chris_Kamara) at [Bradford City](/source/Bradford_City_A.F.C.) for £225,000. He helped City to promotion from [Division Two](/source/Football_League_Second_Division) when he was among the first City team to play at [Wembley](/source/Wembley_Stadium_(1923)). He played 44 times for City in [1996–97](/source/1996%E2%80%9397_in_English_football) as the club avoided relegation on the final day of the season. But the arrival of new players and the return from injury of [Eddie Youds](/source/Eddie_Youds) forced Mohan out of the side.

He failed to appear again for City and joined [Wycombe Wanderers](/source/Wycombe_Wanderers_F.C.) on loan. His loan spell was deemed successful enough to join Wycombe for £85,000 in October 1997. Two years later he moved to [Stoke City](/source/Stoke_City_F.C.) where he played 92 games and scoring six goals including one in the [Potteries derby](/source/Potteries_derby), before he returned to Hull City in 2001. He scored once in his second spell at the club, in a 4–0 win over [York City](/source/York_City_F.C.).[3] Whilst at Stoke he played as they won the [2000 Football League Trophy Final](/source/2000_Football_League_Trophy_Final).[4]

Mohan spent little more than a season back at Hull before he moved into non-league football with [Gateshead](/source/Gateshead_F.C.).[5] He then went on to play for [Harrogate Town](/source/Harrogate_Town_F.C.), [Spennymoor United](/source/Spennymoor_United_F.C.), [Thornaby](/source/Thornaby_F.C.), [Bishop Auckland](/source/Bishop_Auckland_F.C.), [Stokesley](/source/Stokesley_Sports_Club_F.C.), and [Guisborough Town](/source/Guisborough_Town_F.C.).[5][6][7][8][9]
