The **New Yamuna Bridge** is a [cable-stayed bridge](/source/Cable-stayed_bridge) located in [Prayagraj](/source/Prayagraj). The bridge was constructed by the end of 2004 with the aim of minimizing the traffic over the [Old Naini Bridge](/source/Old_Naini_Bridge). The bridge runs north–south across the [Yamuna River](/source/Yamuna_River) connecting the city of Prayagraj to its neighborhood of [Naini](/source/Naini%2C_Prayagraj). The construction was consulted by [COWI A/S](/source/COWI_A%2FS), a [Danish](/source/Denmark) consulting company. Main construction was done by [Hyundai](/source/Hyundai_Group) and was successfully completed in 2004. The structure spans 1,510 meters with a main span of 260 meters, featuring six traffic lanes and pedestrian walkways.

## History

The New Yamuna Bridge was constructed to ease congestion from the older Naini Bridge and improve connectivity between [Prayagraj](/source/Prayagraj) and [Naini](/source/Naini%2C_Prayagraj), especially due to increasing commuter and pilgrimage traffic.[1][2][3] The construction began in the early 2000s and the bridge was completed in 2004, officially opened for public use the same year.[4] It was built by [Hyundai Engineering and Construction](/source/Hyundai_Engineering_and_Construction) with engineering consultation from [COWI A/S](/source/COWI_A%2FS), a Danish engineering consultancy with expertise in large-scale civil projects.[5] The project was one of India's earliest modern cable-stayed bridges, reflecting a shift toward international infrastructure collaboration and urban modernization in northern India.[6]
