**Nessen City** is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) and [census-designated place](/source/Census-designated_place) in [Benzie County](/source/Benzie_County%2C_Michigan) in the [U.S. state](/source/U.S._state) of [Michigan](/source/Michigan). The population was 108[4] as of 2021.[5] Nessen City is located within [Colfax Township](/source/Colfax_Township%2C_Benzie_County%2C_Michigan), and is located immediately north of the [Manistee County](/source/Manistee_County%2C_Michigan) line.

## History

Nessen City was established as a station on the newly-constructed [Manistee and North-Eastern Railroad](/source/Manistee_and_North-Eastern_Railroad) in 1889.[6] The same year, the community was [platted](/source/Plat) by John and Edith Nessen.[7]

The community of Nessen City was listed as a newly-organized [census-designated place](/source/Census-designated_place) for the [2010 census](/source/2010_United_States_Census), meaning it now has officially defined boundaries and population statistics for the first time.[8]

## Geography

Nessen City is located along the southern border of [Colfax Township](/source/Colfax_Township%2C_Benzie_County%2C_Michigan) in southeastern Benzie County. The southern border of the CDP is along the [Manistee County](/source/Manistee_County%2C_Michigan) line. The center of the community is at the intersection of Lindy Road and Karlin Road (north)/Nessen Road (south). The community is 3 miles (5 km) east of the village of [Thompsonville](/source/Thompsonville%2C_Michigan) and 3.8 miles (6.1 km) northeast of the village of [Copemish](/source/Copemish%2C_Michigan).

According to the [United States Census Bureau](/source/United_States_Census_Bureau), the CDP has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.[9]
