'''Neochloridaceae''' is a [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)) of [green algae](/source/green_algae) in the order [Sphaeropleales](/source/Sphaeropleales).<ref>See the [NCBI](/source/National_Center_for_Biotechnology_Information) [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Taxonomy/Browser/wwwtax.cgi?mode=Info&id=132191 webpage on Neochloridaceae]. Data extracted from the {{cite web | url=https://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/pub/taxonomy/ | title=NCBI taxonomy resources | publisher=[National Center for Biotechnology Information](/source/National_Center_for_Biotechnology_Information) | access-date=2007-03-19}}</ref>

Neochloridaceae consists of aquatic, coccoid algae. The cells are spherical or with complex polyhedral shapes. [Chloroplast](/source/Chloroplast)s have [pyrenoid](/source/pyrenoid)s that are surrounded by continuous starch sheaths. They reproduce via [asexual reproduction](/source/asexual_reproduction), where the cell forms [aplanospore](/source/aplanospore)s or [zoospore](/source/zoospore)s; the zoospores bear two [flagella](/source/flagella).<ref name=Fucikova2014>{{cite journal | doi=10.1111/jpy.12118 | title=Putting incertae sedis taxa in their place: A proposal for ten new families and three new genera in Sphaeropleales (Chlorophyceae, Chlorophyta) | year=2014 | last1=Fučíková | first1=Karolina | last2=Lewis | first2=Paul O. | last3=Lewis | first3=Louise A. | journal=Journal of Phycology | volume=50 | issue=1 | pages=14–25 | pmid=26988005 | s2cid=24770288 }}</ref>

Phylogenetically, Neochloridaceae is sister to the family [Hydrodictyaceae](/source/Hydrodictyaceae), a family which contains common and well-known algae such as ''[Pediastrum](/source/Pediastrum)''.<ref>{{cite journal | doi=10.1111/j.1529-8817.2005.00129.x | title=Phylogeny of the Hydrodictyaceae (Chlorophyceae): inferences from rDNA data | date=2005 | last1=Buchheim | first1=Mark | last2=Buchheim | first2=Julie | last3=Carlson | first3=Tracy | last4=Braband | first4=Anke | last5=Hepperle | first5=Dominik | last6=Krienitz | first6=Lothar | last7=Wolf | first7=Matthias | last8=Hegewald | first8=Eberhard | journal=Journal of Phycology | volume=41 | issue=5 | pages=1039–1054 | s2cid=83698514 }}</ref>
