The Nen River flows through the northern part of [Heilongjiang](/source/Heilongjiang) Province and the northeastern section of [Inner Mongolia](/source/Inner_Mongolia), some parts of the river forming the border between the two regions. At {{Cvt|1370|km}} in length, the Nen River is the longest tributary of the [Songhua River](/source/Songhua_River). The Nen River flows in the general southern direction in a wide valley between the [Greater Khingan](/source/Greater_Khingan) and the [Lesser Khingan](/source/Lesser_Khingan) mountain ranges in the west and east, respectively, and meets the [Second Songhua River](/source/Second_Songhua_River) near [Da'an](/source/Da'an%2C_Jilin) to form the Songhua River.
