# Nelson Range

The '''Nelson Range''' is a subrange of the [Selkirk Mountains](/source/Selkirk_Mountains) in the [West Kootenay](/source/West_Kootenay) region of [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia), [Canada](/source/Canada).  It is located south of the west arm of [Kootenay Lake](/source/Kootenay_Lake) between the [Salmo](/source/Salmo_River) (W) and [Kootenay River](/source/Kootenay_River)s (E)<ref>{{BCGNIS|13506|Nelson Range}}</ref> and also to the west of the south arm of Kootenay Lake.  The range gets its name from the City of [Nelson](/source/Nelson%2C_British_Columbia), which is on the south bank of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake and at the foot of the range's northwestern slopes.

The range-designation ends at the [Canada–United States border](/source/Canada%E2%80%93United_States_border).  In the United States, the term Nelson Range refers to [a different range](/source/Nelson_Range_(California)) in [Inyo County](/source/Inyo_County%2C_California), [California](/source/California).<ref>{{cite gnis|id=246470|name=Nelson Range}}</ref>
