# Nelson Pinto

**Nelson Alejandro Pinto Martínez** (born 1 February 1981) is a Chilean former professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [midfielder](/source/Midfielder).

## Career

[Midfielder](/source/Midfielder) played five years with Chilean club [Universidad de Chile](/source/Club_Universidad_de_Chile). He made 110 caps with the Chilean squad and scored eight goals before making the move to Mexico before the clasura tournament 2005.

Pinto played for Chile at the [2001 FIFA World Youth Championship](/source/2001_FIFA_World_Youth_Championship) in Argentina.[1]

## Post-retirement

After his retirement Pinto played for the amateur club Unión Veterana[2] and since 2017 has played for the Chile national [minifootball](/source/Minifootball) team alongside others former footballers such as [Pablo Duque](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Duque) and [Juan Carlos Muñoz](/source/Juan_Carlos_Mu%C3%B1oz_(footballer,_born_1978)),[3] winning the 2018 PAN AM Cup in [Guatemala](/source/Guatemala) and taking part at the 2017 World Cup and at the 2018 Confederations Cup in [Tunisia](/source/Tunisia).[4] In addition to this, he has played [futsal](/source/Futsal) for [Universidad de Chile](/source/Club_Universidad_de_Chile), winning the 2017 tournament.[5]
