Reed played high school basketball at [South Spencer High School](/source/South_Spencer_High_School) in [Reo, Indiana](/source/Reo%2C_Indiana), as a freshman, [Bloomington High School South](/source/Bloomington_High_School_South) in [Bloomington, Indiana](/source/Bloomington%2C_Indiana), as a sophomore,<ref>

Reed played [college basketball](/source/college_basketball) with the [Indiana Hoosiers](/source/Indiana_Hoosiers_men's_basketball) for three seasons, and after sitting out a year, one season with the [Southern Miss Golden Eagles](/source/Southern_Miss_Golden_Eagles_basketball).
