'''Neil Alexander Matheson''' (25 August 1904 &ndash; 1 April 1972) was a [Liberal party](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Canada) member of the [House of Commons of Canada](/source/House_of_Commons_of_Canada). He was born in [Rose Valley, Prince Edward Island](/source/Rose_Valley%2C_Prince_Edward_Island) and was also an editor, farmer and journalist.

He obtained a [Bachelor of Arts](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree at [Mount Allison University](/source/Mount_Allison_University). During [World War II](/source/World_War_II), he was a captain in the reserves.<ref name=CPG />

Matheson was first elected with [Angus MacLean](/source/Angus_MacLean) at the [Queen's](/source/Queen's_(Prince_Edward_Island_federal_electoral_district)) electoral district in the [1953 general election](/source/1953_Canadian_federal_election), when that riding elected two members to Parliament. In the [1957 election](/source/1957_Canadian_federal_election), he was defeated when MacLean and fellow [Progressive Conservative party](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Canada) candidate [Heath MacQuarrie](/source/Heath_MacQuarrie) received the two highest votes.
