'''Edward James Gregory''' (29 May 1839 – 22 April 1899) was an Australian [cricketer](/source/cricketer) who played in the first recognised [Test](/source/Test_cricket) in 1877 between [Australia](/source/Australia_national_cricket_team) and [England](/source/England_national_cricket_team) in Melbourne.

He came from a cricketing family, his brothers included [Arthur](/source/Arthur_Gregory), [Dave](/source/Dave_Gregory_(cricketer)), and [Charles](/source/Charles_Smith_Gregory). His children were also notable, [Syd](/source/Syd_Gregory), [Louisa](/source/Louisa_Caroline_Gregory), and [Charles Gregory](/source/Charles_William_Gregory), and his brother Charles' son was [Jack Gregory](/source/Jack_Gregory_(cricketer)).<ref>{{Cite web |title=Biography - Charles Smith (Charlie) Gregory - People Australia |url=https://peopleaustralia.anu.edu.au/biography/gregory-edward-james-ned-3900 |access-date=2025-09-21 |website=peopleaustralia.anu.edu.au}}</ref>

Ned was also father-in-law of [Harry Donnan](/source/Harry_Donnan). In the latter part of his life he was custodian of the Association ground at Sydney (later to be known as the [Sydney Cricket Ground](/source/Sydney_Cricket_Ground)) after building the scoreboard there.

Ned Gregory and [Nat Thomson](/source/Nat_Thomson) are indicated by [Wisden](/source/Wisden_Cricketers'_Almanack) to have been born on the same day, and thus jointly were the earliest-born Australian Test cricketers.
