The **National Unity Party** ([Turkish](/source/Turkish_language): *Ulusal Birlik Partisi*, **UBP**) is a political party in [Northern Cyprus](/source/Northern_Cyprus). The UBP party was founded by [Rauf Denktaş](/source/Rauf_Denkta%C5%9F) on 11 October 1975. The party was in power from its creation until the 2003 elections with the exception of the period from 1994–1996. Ideologically, it has been variously described as [conservative](/source/Conservative), [nationalist](/source/Turkish_nationalism), [liberal conservative](/source/Liberal_conservative), and [national-conservative](/source/National-conservative).[3] The party is positioned on the [right-wing](/source/Right-wing) of the political spectrum,[4] and it supports a [two-state solution](/source/Two-state_solution_(Cyprus)) to the [Cyprus dispute](/source/Cyprus_dispute).[5][6][7] Until April 2022, the party was a member of the [European Conservatives and Reformists Party](/source/European_Conservatives_and_Reformists_Party), which it had joined in April 2017.[8]

In the [2005 Northern Cypriot presidential election](/source/2005_Northern_Cypriot_presidential_election), the party's candidate [Derviş Eroğlu](/source/Dervi%C5%9F_Ero%C4%9Flu) amassed 22.8% of the votes. In the [2009 Northern Cypriot parliamentary election](/source/2009_Northern_Cypriot_parliamentary_election), the party won 44% of the popular vote and 26 out of 50 seats, forming a [majority government](/source/Majority_government) led by Eroğlu.[9] The party also won the [2010 Northern Cyprus presidential election](/source/2010_Northern_Cypriot_presidential_election) with Eroğlu as its candidate, and the [2020 Northern Cypriot presidential election](/source/2020_Northern_Cypriot_presidential_election) with [Ersin Tatar](/source/Ersin_Tatar) as its candidate. From 2016 until [2018 Northern Cypriot parliamentary election](/source/2018_Northern_Cypriot_parliamentary_election), the party was the senior partner in a [minority government](/source/Minority_government) with the [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(Northern_Cyprus)), with its leader [Hüseyin Özgürgün](/source/H%C3%BCseyin_%C3%96zg%C3%BCrg%C3%BCn) serving as prime minister. It had previously been a junior partner in a [coalition government](/source/Coalition_government) with the [Republican Turkish Party](/source/Republican_Turkish_Party), preceded by a period as the opposition party between 2013 and 2015.[10] Since January 2023, the party has been led by [Ünal Üstel](/source/%C3%9Cnal_%C3%9Cstel), who replaced [Faiz Sucuoğlu](/source/Faiz_Sucuo%C4%9Flu).[11]
