Nationalist political alliance

The **National Union Front** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): جبهة الاتحاد الوطني, [romanized](/source/Romanization_of_Arabic): *Jabhat al-Ittihad al-Watani*) was an [Iraqi nationalist](/source/Iraqi_nationalism) [political alliance](/source/Political_alliance) formed in 1954 and re-established in 1956 as a coalition of the [Ba'ath Party](/source/Ba'ath_Party), the [Iraqi Communist Party](/source/Iraqi_Communist_Party), the [Iraqi Independence Party](/source/Iraqi_Independence_Party), the [National Democratic Party](/source/National_Democratic_Party_(Iraq%2C_1946)) and later the [Kurdistan Democratic Party](/source/Kurdistan_Democratic_Party).[1][2] The alliance supported various Arab nationalist and liberation movements around the world, supporting the governments in [Egypt](/source/Egypt) and [Syria](/source/Syria) and supporting the Algerian liberation movement.[3] The alliance splintered and dissolved in the aftermath of the 1958 revolution led by [Abd al-Karim Qasim](/source/Abd_al-Karim_Qasim) after division across between Arab nationalists and Iraqi communists.[4]
