The **National Security Party** ([Armenian](/source/Armenian_language): Ազգային անվտանգություն կուսակցություն, [romanized](/source/Romanization_of_Armenian): *Azgayin anvtangut’yun kusakts’ut’yun*) is an [Armenian](/source/Armenia) [political party](/source/Political_party).

## History

The party is led by Garnik Isagulyan and does not have any representation in the [National Assembly](/source/National_Assembly_of_Armenia). The party currently acts as an [extra-parliamentary](/source/Extra-parliamentary_opposition) force.

Prior to the [2013 Yerevan City Council election](/source/2013_Yerevan_City_Council_election), the party announced it would not participate or endorse any other party.[2] Prior to the [2013 Armenian presidential election](/source/2013_Armenian_presidential_election), the party said that it would support the presidential winner by taking an active part in building a safe, just and secure Armenia.[3]

Following the [2020–2021 Armenian protests](/source/2020%E2%80%932021_Armenian_protests), Garnik Isagulyan accused President [Armen Sarksyan](/source/Armen_Sarksyan) of supporting [Edmon Marukyan](/source/Edmon_Marukyan) leader of [Bright Armenia](/source/Bright_Armenia) to become the next prime minister.[4]

## Activities

Prior to the [2014 Scottish independence referendum](/source/2014_Scottish_independence_referendum), the party sent a letter to the [Scottish National Party](/source/Scottish_National_Party) wishing them success towards achieving self-determination for [Scotland](/source/Scotland) in the upcoming independence referendum.[5]

Following the [2016 Yerevan hostage crisis](/source/2016_Yerevan_hostage_crisis), Garnik Isagulyan declared the [Sasna Tsrer Pan-Armenian Party](/source/Sasna_Tsrer_Pan-Armenian_Party) a criminal party.[6]

On 9 November 2020, the party signed a joint declaration with the other member parties of the [Homeland Salvation Movement](/source/Homeland_Salvation_Movement) calling on Prime Minister [Nikol Pashinyan](/source/Nikol_Pashinyan) to resign during the [2020–2021 Armenian protests](/source/2020%E2%80%932021_Armenian_protests).[7]

On 23 December 2020, Garnik Isagulyan was arrested for inciting mob violence against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.[8][9]
