**Nathan John McAndrew** (born 14 July 1993) is an Australian [cricketer](/source/Cricket).[1] A [medium-fast](/source/Fast_bowling) [bowler](/source/Bowler_(cricket)), McAndrew was called into the [Sydney Thunder](/source/Sydney_Thunder) squad for [BBL|05](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_Big_Bash_League_season), where the Sydney Thunder would ultimately win the championship. He made his [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) debut on 16 January 2016 against the [Sydney Sixers](/source/Sydney_Sixers).[2]

After linking up with the club through [NSW](/source/New_South_Wales_cricket_team) bowling coach [Andre Adams](/source/Andre_Adams), McAndrew made his [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) debut for [Auckland](/source/Auckland_cricket_team) on 5 February 2016 in the [2015–16 Plunket Shield](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_Plunket_Shield_season), where he played three matches.[3][4]

McAndrew was first called up to the [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales_cricket_team) squad in 2019, where he made his [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) debut on 22 September 2019, in the [2019–20 Marsh One-Day Cup](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Marsh_One-Day_Cup).[5]

In June 2020, McAndrew was included in the [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales_cricket_team) contracts list ahead of the 2020/21 season, where he appeared in the [2020–21 Marsh One-Day Cup](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_Marsh_One-Day_Cup).[6][7]

In May 2021, McAndrew signed with [South Australia](/source/South_Australia_cricket_team) for the 2021/22 season.[8] McAndrew made his [Sheffield Shield](/source/Sheffield_Shield) debut in the opening game of the [2021-22 Sheffield Shield season](/source/2021-22_Sheffield_Shield_season) against [Western Australia](/source/Western_Australia_cricket_team), taking 3/71 in the first innings, including [Test](/source/Test_cricket) players [Cameron Bancroft](/source/Cameron_Bancroft), [Cameron Green](/source/Cameron_Green) and [Shaun Marsh](/source/Shaun_Marsh), and scoring 65[*](/source/Not_out).[9] McAndrew cites his reasons for moving to South Australia as being due to his ambition to play [Sheffield Shield](/source/Sheffield_Shield) in addition to white-ball cricket.[10]

He signed for [Sussex County Cricket Club](/source/Sussex_County_Cricket_Club) for the 2023 season.[11] McAndrew went on to rejoin the club for both the 2024[12] and 2025 seasons.[13]

## Personal life

As of 2021, McAndrew had almost completed his studies in [civil engineering](/source/Civil_engineering) at the [University of Wollongong](/source/University_of_Wollongong). He was able to study part-time to allow time for his cricket career.[14]
