# Nate Ackerman

**Nathanael Leedom Ackerman** (born March 4, 1978),[1] known as **Nate Ackerman**, is a British-American [mathematician](/source/Mathematician) and [wrestler](/source/Wrestling). He is the son of [Peter Ackerman](/source/Peter_Ackerman) and [Joanne Leedom-Ackerman](/source/Joanne_Leedom-Ackerman).

## Biography

Ackerman was born in [New York City](/source/New_York_City), [New York](/source/New_York_(state)), United States to [Joanne Leedom-Ackerman](/source/Joanne_Leedom-Ackerman) and [Peter Ackerman](/source/Peter_Ackerman). He was educated at the [American School in London](/source/American_School_in_London)[2] and then [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University), where he graduated in June 2000.

Ackerman competed in the [2004 Summer Olympic Games](/source/2004_Summer_Olympics) as part of the [Great Britain National Team](/source/Great_Britain_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics).[3] He also competed in the [1999](/source/1999_World_Wrestling_Championships), [2001](/source/2001_World_Wrestling_Championships), 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2011 World Championships.[4] Ackerman's best international finish was fifth at the 2011 Commonwealth Championship.[1]

Ackerman was a two-times winner of the [British Wrestling Championships](/source/British_Wrestling_Championships) at welterweight in 2002 and 2004.[5]

He received his [Ph.D.](/source/Doctor_of_Philosophy) in mathematics in 2006 from [Massachusetts Institute of Technology](/source/Massachusetts_Institute_of_Technology).[6][7]
