**Narromine Shire** is a [local government area](/source/Local_government_in_Australia) in the [Orana](/source/Orana%2C_New_South_Wales) region of [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales), [Australia](/source/Australia). The Shire is located adjacent to the [Mitchell Highway](/source/Mitchell_Highway) and the [Main Western railway line](/source/Main_Western_railway_line%2C_New_South_Wales). It was formed on 1 January 1981 from the amalgamation of the [Municipality of Narromine](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Municipality_of_Narromine&action=edit&redlink=1) and [Timbrebongie Shire](/source/Timbrebongie_Shire) resulting from the *[Local Government Areas Amalgamation Act 1980](/source/Local_Government_Areas_Amalgamation_Act_1980)*.[1]

Narromine Shire includes the towns of [Narromine](/source/Narromine%2C_New_South_Wales), [Trangie](/source/Trangie%2C_New_South_Wales) and [Tomingley](/source/Tomingley%2C_New_South_Wales).

### Current composition and election method

Narromine Shire Council is composed of nine [councillors](/source/Councillor) elected [proportionally](/source/Single_transferable_vote) as a single [ward](/source/Ward_(country_subdivision)). All councillors are elected for a fixed four-year term of office. The [mayor](/source/Mayor) is elected by the councillors at the first meeting of the council.[5]
