**Narail-1** is a constituency represented in the [National Parliament of Bangladesh](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) since 1984. From 13th February, 2026, this constituency is owned by the [Bangladesh Nationalist Party](/source/Bangladesh_Nationalist_Party) Candidate [Biswas Jahangir Alam](/source/Biswas_Jahangir_Alam).[2]

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Kalia Upazila](/source/Kalia_Upazila) and five [union parishads](/source/Union_parishad) of [Narail Sadar Upazila](/source/Narail_Sadar_Upazila): Bhadrabila, Bichhali, Kalora, Shaikhati, and Singasolpur.[3][4]

## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from a Jessore constituency when the former Jessore District was split into four districts: [Jhenaidah](/source/Jhenaidah_District), [Jessore](/source/Jessore_District), [Magura](/source/Magura_District), and [Narail](/source/Narail_District).[5]

Sheikh Hasina stood for five seats in the October 2001 general election: [Rangpur-6](/source/Rangpur-6), Narail-1, [Narail-2](/source/Narail-2), [Barguna-3](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Barguna-3&action=edit&redlink=1), and [Gopalganj-3](/source/Gopalganj-3). After winning all but Rangpur-6, she chose to represent Gopalganj-3 and quit the other three, triggering by-elections in them.[19] Dhirendra Nath Shah of the BNP was elected in a January 2002 by-election.[20]
