He played for the [Iran national football team](/source/Iran_national_football_team) and was a participant at the [1998 FIFA World Cup](/source/1998_FIFA_World_Cup). On 21 January 2000 he officially retired at half-time during a [testimonial match](/source/Testimonial_match) ([Iran vs Asia All-Stars](/source/2000_Iran_vs_Asia_All-Stars_Game)).[2]
