**NGC 5844** is a [planetary nebula](/source/Planetary_nebula) in the [constellation](/source/Constellation) [Triangulum Australe](/source/Triangulum_Australe). It was initially discovered by [British](/source/United_Kingdom) [astronomer](/source/Astronomer) [John Herschel](/source/John_Herschel) on May 2, 1835.[2] Given its [magnitude](/source/Magnitude_(astronomy)) of 13.2, NGC 5844 is visible with the help of a [telescope](/source/Telescope) having an [aperture](/source/Aperture) of 10 [inches](/source/Inch) (250[mm](/source/Millimetre)) or more.[3] The object is located approximately 4,474 [light years](/source/Light-year) (1372[pc](/source/Parsec)) away from the [Earth](/source/Earth), and is moving towards the [Sun](/source/Sun) at a [radial velocity](/source/Radial_velocity) of -0.0002 km/s±0.00013.[1]
