**NGC 5009** (also known as **2MASX J13104698+5005301**, **UGC 8258**[2] and **PGC 45739**[3])[4] is a [barred spiral galaxy](/source/Barred_spiral_galaxy) located in the [constellation](/source/Constellation) [Canes Venatici](/source/Canes_Venatici).[5] It was discovered on 26 September 1900 by the American [astronomer](/source/Astronomer) [DeLisle Stewart](/source/DeLisle_Stewart).[6] NGC 5009 is situated north of the [celestial equator](/source/Celestial_equator) and, as such, it is more easily visible from the Northern Hemisphere. Given its [visual magnitude](/source/Apparent_magnitude) of 15.6, NGC 5009 is invisible to the [naked eye](/source/Naked_eye) and only visible [through long exposure photography](/source/Astrophotography).[5]
