# Myochrous

***Myochrous*** is a genus of [leaf beetles](/source/Leaf_beetle) in the subfamily [Eumolpinae](/source/Eumolpinae). It is known from [North](/source/North_America), [Central](/source/Central_America) and [South America](/source/South_America). There are over 50 described species in *Myochrous*.[1][2][3][4] The generic name is a combination of the [Ancient Greek](/source/Ancient_Greek) words μῦς (mouse) and χρῶμα (color).[4]

The southern corn leaf beetle (*[Myochrous denticollis](/source/Myochrous_denticollis)*) is a crop pest, and has been reported to damage corn in [Illinois](/source/Illinois).[5] Additionally, the species *[Myochrous melancholicus](/source/Myochrous_melancholicus)* has been reported to damage [banana](/source/Banana) fruit.[6]

According to [BugGuide](/source/BugGuide) and [ITIS](/source/Integrated_Taxonomic_Information_System), the genus is now placed in the tribe [Eumolpini](/source/Eumolpini) instead of [Adoxini](/source/Adoxini).[1][2]
