**Mymensingh-1** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh).

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Haluaghat Upazila](/source/Haluaghat_Upazila) and [Dhobaura Upazila](/source/Dhobaura_Upazila).[2][3]

## History

The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973.

Ahead of the [2008 general election](/source/2008_Bangladeshi_general_election), the [Election Commission](/source/Bangladesh_Election_Commission) redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [2001 Bangladesh census](/source/2001_Bangladesh_census).[4] The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.[5]

Promode Mankin died in May 2016. Jewel Areng, his son, was elected in a July by-election.[11]

Promode Mankin was re-elected unopposed in the [2014 general election](/source/2014_Bangladeshi_general_election) after opposition parties withdrew their candidacies in a boycott of the election.[13]
