**Muktha George** also known by **Bhanu** is an Indian actress who works in [Malayalam](/source/Malayalam_film) and [Tamil](/source/Tamil_cinema) films. She is well known for her role as Bhanumathy in the Tamil film *[Thaamirabharani](/source/Thaamirabharani)*.[1]

## Early life

Muktha was born at [Kolenchery](/source/Kolenchery) in the [Ernakulam district](/source/Ernakulam_district) of [Kerala](/source/Kerala) to George and Saly.[2] She has an elder sister. Her family is originally from [Angamaly](/source/Angamaly). She was educated at St. Augustine's Girls' School in [Kothamangalam](/source/Kothamangalam).[3]

## Career

Muktha started her career as a child artist when she was in class six. She acted in television serials such as *Swaram* (on Amrita TV)[3] and then switched to the film industry.[4] She started her career by playing supporting role in *[Otta Nanayam](/source/Otta_Nanayam)*, released in 2005.But her first film in main role was [Lal Jose](/source/Lal_Jose)'s *[Achanurangatha Veedu](/source/Achanurangatha_Veedu)*, released in 2005, when Muktha was doing her 8th standard.[5] She was seen as Lisamma in the film and *[The Hindu](/source/The_Hindu)* wrote "It's perhaps one of the most enduring female roles in modern Malayalam cinema".[3]

She later acted in a [Telugu](/source/Telugu_language) film titled *[Photo](/source/Photo_(2006_film))* opposite [Anand](/source/Nandu_(actor)) and [Anjali](/source/Anjali_(actress_born_1986)).[6] She made her successful entry into the [Tamil film industry](/source/Tamil_cinema) with the film *[Thaamirabharani](/source/Thaamirabharani)* opposite [Vishal](/source/Vishal_(actor)). She later starred in some Malayalam films like *[Nasrani](/source/Nasrani_(film))* and *[Goal](/source/Goal_(2007_Malayalam_film))*.

She played an established actress in the Tamil film *[Pudhumugangal Thevai](/source/Pudhumugangal_Thevai)*.[7] In *[Moondru Per Moondru Kadhal](/source/Moondru_Per_Moondru_Kadhal)* she played the role of a "feisty young woman" called Mallika who belongs to a fishing community.[3] For her role, she spent one month on the beach under the sun, getting herself a tan and also learnt to speak Tamil in the Nagercoil slang.[8] In 2013, she signed her first Kannada film, *Darling*, directed by Santhu where she starred opposite Yogi.[1][9]

## Personal life

Muktha married Rinku Tomy on 30 August 2015 in [Edappally](/source/Edappally). He is the brother of playback singer [Rimi Tomy](/source/Rimi_Tomy).[10] The couple has a daughter named Kiara.[11] Muktha is a trained classical dancer and has performed in many stage shows.[3] She also manages a beauty salon.[1]
