It existed (intermittently) from 603 to 1121, when its name changed to Yanzhou (and eventually to [Yanzhou Prefecture](/source/Yanzhou_Prefecture) in the [Ming dynasty](/source/Ming_dynasty)).

The administrative region of Muzhou in the [Tang dynasty](/source/Tang_dynasty) falls within modern [Jiande](/source/Jiande) in western [Zhejiang](/source/Zhejiang). It probably includes modern:
