The **Movement of Socialists** ([Serbian](/source/Serbian_language): Покрет социјалиста, [romanized](/source/Romanization_of_Serbian): *Pokret socijalista*, abbr. **PS**) is a [left-wing nationalist](/source/Left-wing_nationalism) [political party](/source/List_of_political_parties_in_Serbia) in [Serbia](/source/Serbia). It was founded in 2008 by [Aleksandar Vulin](/source/Aleksandar_Vulin), who served as the party's president until 2022 when he was succeeded by [Bojan Torbica](/source/Bojan_Torbica).

## History

It was founded on 8 August 2008 by [Aleksandar Vulin](/source/Aleksandar_Vulin), a former high-ranking member of [Yugoslav Left](/source/Yugoslav_Left)[2] who left it in 1998 after perceiving the party to have "betrayed its program and became a political mask for the wealthy sitting in the party".[3] It is a part of the governing coalition with the [Serbian Progressive Party](/source/Serbian_Progressive_Party) (SNS). It was formed by former members of the [Socialist Party of Serbia](/source/Socialist_Party_of_Serbia) because they disagreed with the [pro-European](/source/Pro-European) policy of the party; however, it was a member of the pro-European SNS-led coalitions in the [2012](/source/2012_Serbian_parliamentary_election) (as part of [Let's Get Serbia Moving](/source/Let's_Get_Serbia_Moving) alliance) and in the [2014](/source/2014_Serbian_parliamentary_election) Serbian parliamentary elections. In December 2022, Vulin resigned as the leader of PS after being appointed as the director of the [Security Intelligence Agency](/source/Security_Intelligence_Agency).[4]

## Ideology and platform

It is a self-described [radical left](/source/Far-left_politics)[5] or [leftist](/source/Left-wing_politics) political party.[6][7] Observers have described it as a [centre-left](/source/Centre-left), [social-democratic](/source/Social_democracy), and [left-wing nationalist](/source/Left-wing_nationalism) party.[2][8][9] Its foreign policy views are [Eurosceptic](/source/Euroscepticism) and [anti-Western](/source/Anti-Western_sentiment).[8][10][11] PS is supportive of further cooperation with China and Russia.[12]

It was created as a party vehicle for Vulin,[13] who has been described as a [nationalist](/source/Nationalism),[14][15] and has expressed [irredentist](/source/Greater_Serbia) views.[16][17] In 2022, PS proclaimed the "[Serbian world](/source/Serbian_world)" idea as its primary political idea and goal.[18] It has been also described as a [satellite party](/source/Bloc_party_(politics)) of the ruling [Serbian Progressive Party](/source/Serbian_Progressive_Party).[19]

In an opinion article, Miloš Baković Jadžić, now[\[update\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Movement_of_Socialists&action=edit)-leader of the Political Platform [Solidarity](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Solidarity_(Serbia)&action=edit&redlink=1) and member of the party [Together](/source/Together_(Serbia)), criticised PS by describing it as a [conservative](/source/Conservatism) and [neoliberal](/source/Neoliberalism) party "with nothing in common with progressive left-wing politics but its name, symbolism, occasional rhetoric and a somewhat radical program," having engaged in active anti-worker and anti-progressive politics.[20] Sociologist [Jovo Bakić](/source/Jovo_Baki%C4%87) has also disputed the leftism of PS due to "their support for the nationalistic and neoliberal policies".[21] Political theorist [Srećko Horvat](/source/Sre%C4%87ko_Horvat) noted PS' participation in the governing coalition's "harsh neoliberal measures, including [pension](/source/Pension) cuts, [public sector](/source/Public_sector) wage cuts, [deregulation](/source/Deregulation) and [labor market flexibilization](/source/Labour_market_flexibility)" and [minister](/source/Ministry_of_Labour%2C_Employment%2C_Veteran_and_Social_Policy_(Serbia)) Vulin's direct responsibility for "one of the worst new [labor laws](/source/Labor_law)" that had been passed in Serbia in 2014. He further discredited the party as having nothing to do with [socialism](/source/Socialism) or left-wing politics.[22]

In 2015, Vulin said that he was opposed to same-sex marriage and that, as minister for social policy, he would never sign a law making it possible.[23]

Its headquarters are at Bulevar Milutina Milankovića 120B in [Belgrade](/source/Belgrade).[24]
