# Mount Vaught

**Mount Vaught** (8,854 feet (2,699 m)) is located in the [Livingston Range](/source/Livingston_Range), [Glacier National Park](/source/Glacier_National_Park_(US)) in the [U.S. state](/source/U.S._state) of [Montana](/source/Montana).[1] Mount Vaught is just over 2 miles (3.2 km) SSW of [Heavens Peak](/source/Heavens_Peak). The mountain is named for Lawrence O. Vaught, a lawyer from Jacksonville, Illinois, who spent many of his summers in Glacier Park and corresponded with [George Bird Grinnell](/source/George_Bird_Grinnell), who named many of the features in the park.[2]

## Climate

Based on the [Köppen climate classification](/source/K%C3%B6ppen_climate_classification), the peak is located in an alpine [subarctic climate](/source/Subarctic_climate) zone with long, cold, snowy winters, and cool to warm summers.[3] Temperatures can drop below −10 °F with wind chill factors below −30 °F.
