The district was created following the 2015 electoral districts boundaries review. The majority of Mount Scio was previously the district of [St. John's North](/source/St._John's_North_(provincial_electoral_district)). The district also includes parts of the former districts of [Mount Pearl North](/source/Mount_Pearl_North), [St. John's East](/source/St._John's_East_(provincial_electoral_district)), and [Topsail](/source/Topsail_(electoral_district)).
