# Mount Schmid

**Mount Schmid** ([77°58′S 85°40′W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=77_58_S_85_40_W)) is a mountain on the south side of [Embree Glacier](/source/Embree_Glacier), rising 8 km east of [Mount Goldthwait](/source/Mount_Goldthwait) in [Bangey Heights](/source/Bangey_Heights) in the northern portion of the [Sentinel Range](/source/Sentinel_Range), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica). Mapped by USGS from surveys and US Navy air photos, 1957–59. Named by the US-ACAN for Captain [Ernest A. Schmid](/source/Ernest_A._Schmid), USAF, who participated in the establishment of the [IGY](/source/International_Geophysical_Year) [South Pole Station](/source/South_Pole_Station) during the 1956–57 season.[1]
