# Mount Noice

**Mount Noice** ([73°17′S 164°40′E](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=73_17_S_164_40_E)) is a [mountain](/source/Mountain) (2,780 m) surmounting the southwest edge of [Deception Plateau](/source/Deception_Plateau), 8 nautical miles (15 km) south of [Mount Overlord](/source/Mount_Overlord), in [Victoria Land](/source/Victoria_Land). Mapped by [United States Geological Survey](/source/United_States_Geological_Survey) (USGS) from surveys and [U.S. Navy](/source/U.S._Navy) air photos, 1960–64. Named by [Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names](/source/Advisory_Committee_on_Antarctic_Names) (US-ACAN) for Lieutenant [Gary E. Noice](/source/Gary_E._Noice), U.S. Navy, navigator with Squadron [VX-6](/source/VX-6) at [McMurdo Station](/source/McMurdo_Station), 1966.[1]

The mountain is part of the Melbourne Volcanic Province of the [McMurdo Volcanic Group](/source/McMurdo_Volcanic_Group). [K–Ar](/source/K%E2%80%93Ar_dating) or [Rb–Sr](/source/Rubidium%E2%80%93strontium_dating) dating has given an age of 6.38 ± 0.08 million years for Mount Noice [obsidian](/source/Obsidian) and [pantellerite](/source/Pantellerite).[2]
