'''Mount Howell''' ({{coord|72|14|S|99|3|W|source:GNIS|display=inline,title}}) is a mountain {{Convert|3|nmi|km|0}} south-southwest of [Mount Borgeson](/source/Mount_Borgeson) in the [Walker Mountains](/source/Walker_Mountains) of [Thurston Island](/source/Thurston_Island), Antarctica. It was named by the [Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names](/source/Advisory_Committee_on_Antarctic_Names) after Lieutenant Commander [John D. Howell](/source/John_D._Howell), a pilot and airplane commander in the Eastern Group of U.S. Navy [Operation Highjump](/source/Operation_Highjump), which obtained aerial photographs of this mountain and coastal areas adjacent to Thurston Island in 1946–47. Commander Howell landed a [PBM Mariner](/source/PBM_Mariner) seaplane in the open water of eastern [Glacier Bight](/source/Glacier_Bight) on 11 January 1947 to rescue six survivors of a 30 December Mariner crash on [Noville Peninsula](/source/Noville_Peninsula).<ref name=gnis/>
