==Geology==
Like other mountains in Glacier National Park, the peak is composed of [sedimentary rock](/source/sedimentary_rock) laid down during the [Precambrian](/source/Precambrian) to [Jurassic](/source/Jurassic) periods. Formed in shallow seas, this sedimentary rock was initially uplifted beginning 170 million years ago when the [Lewis Overthrust](/source/Lewis_Overthrust) fault pushed an enormous slab of [precambrian](/source/precambrian) rocks {{convert|3|mi|km|1|abbr=on}} thick, {{convert|50|mi|km}} wide and {{convert|160|mi|km}} long over younger rock of the [cretaceous](/source/cretaceous) period.<ref name=gadd>{{cite journal|title=Geology of the Rocky Mountains and Columbias |author=Gadd, Ben |year=2008}}</ref>

==Climate==
Based on the [Köppen climate classification](/source/K%C3%B6ppen_climate_classification), the peak is located in an alpine [subarctic climate](/source/subarctic_climate) zone with long, cold, snowy winters, and cool to warm summers.<ref name=KGcc2007>{{Cite Köppen-Geiger cc 2007}}</ref> Temperatures can drop below −10 °F with wind chill factors below −30 °F.
