# Mount Fifi

**Mount Fifi** is located in the [Sawback Range](/source/Sawback_Range) of [Banff National Park](/source/Banff_National_Park), [Alberta](/source/Alberta). It was named in 1886 after Edith Orde's dog Fifi. [Mount Louis](/source/Mount_Louis), [Mount Edith](/source/Mount_Edith), and Mount Fifi were named on the trip.[2][3]

## Geology

Mount Fifi is composed of [limestone](/source/Limestone), a [sedimentary rock](/source/Sedimentary_rock) laid down from the [Precambrian](/source/Precambrian) to [Jurassic](/source/Jurassic) periods.[4] Formed in shallow seas, this sedimentary rock was pushed east and over the top of younger rock during the [Laramide orogeny](/source/Laramide_orogeny).[5]

## Climate

Based on the [Köppen climate classification](/source/K%C3%B6ppen_climate_classification), Mount Fifi is located in a [subarctic climate](/source/Subarctic_climate) with cold, snowy winters, and mild summers.[6] Temperatures can drop below −20 °C (−4 °F) with wind chill factors below −30 °C (−22 °F). Weather conditions during summer months are optimum for climbing.
