'''Mount Bursey''' is a broad, ice-covered mountain, {{convert|2,780|m}} high, which forms the eastern end of the [Flood Range](/source/Flood_Range) in [Marie Byrd Land](/source/Marie_Byrd_Land), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica).

It was discovered by members of the [United States Antarctic Service](/source/United_States_Antarctic_Service) (USAS) on aerial flights in 1940, and named for [Jacob Bursey](/source/Jacob_Bursey), member of the [Byrd Antarctic Expedition](/source/Byrd_Antarctic_Expedition) (1928–30) and dog-driver with the USAS party which sledged to the west end of the Flood Range in December 1940.<ref>{{cite gnis | type = antarid | id = 2193|name=Mount Bursey | accessdate = 2018-08-11}}</ref>

==Volcanism==
Mount Bursey consists of two coalescing [shield volcano](/source/shield_volcano)es, namely Hutt Peak and Koerner Bluff. Each shield contains a {{Convert|4|-|5|km|mi|abbr=on}} diameter [caldera](/source/caldera) at its summit. [Potassium–argon dating](/source/Potassium%E2%80%93argon_dating) has indicated both shields formed during the [Miocene](/source/Miocene) [epoch](/source/epoch_(geology)), with volcanism at Hutt Peak occurring as recently as 0.49 million years ago.<ref>{{cite gvp|vnum=390820|title=Mount Bursey|accessdate=2016-04-27}}</ref>

[Starbuck Crater](/source/Starbuck_Crater) is a volcanic cone on the mountain.
