The village is notable since the [Old Moster Church](/source/Old_Moster_Church) is here and that is the site of the ''Mostratinget'', a [thing](/source/thing_(assembly)) in the year 998 when [Olav Tryggvason](/source/Olav_Tryggvason) is said to have brought [Christianity](/source/Christianity) to Norway and made it the national [Church of Norway](/source/Church_of_Norway).<ref name="snl">{{Cite SNL|Mosterhamn|Mosterhamn|2026-02-01|Thorsnæs|Geir|2025-08-01}}</ref>

Prior to the opening of the [Triangle Link](/source/Triangle_Link) bridge-tunnel network in 2001, Mosterhamn was one port of the [Mosterhamn–Valevåg Ferry](/source/Mosterhamn%E2%80%93Valev%C3%A5g_Ferry) which crossed the [Bømlafjorden](/source/B%C3%B8mlafjorden).
