**Moskovsky Uyezd** (*Московский уезд*) was one of the subdivisions of the [Moscow Governorate](/source/Moscow_Governorate) of the [Russian Empire](/source/Russian_Empire). It was situated in the central part of the governorate and existed until 1929. Its administrative centre was [Moscow](/source/Moscow).

## Demographics

At the time of the [Russian Empire Census](/source/Russian_Empire_Census) of 1897, Moskovsky Uyezd had a population of 1,203,926. Of these, 95.6% spoke [Russian](/source/Russian_language), 1.5% [German](/source/German_language), 0.8% [Polish](/source/Polish_language), 0.4% [Yiddish](/source/Yiddish), 0.4% [Tatar](/source/Tatar_language), 0.4% [Ukrainian](/source/Ukrainian_language), 0.2% [French](/source/French_language), 0.1% [Armenian](/source/Armenian_language), 0.1% [Belarusian](/source/Belarusian_language), 0.1% [English](/source/English_language), 0.1% [Latvian](/source/Latvian_language) and 0.1% [Czech](/source/Czech_language) as their native language.[1]
