== Biography ==

He was born in [London, England](/source/London%2C_England), and his original name was Morris Perlman.<ref name=JTA /> His father was born in [Minsk](/source/Minsk), his mother was born in England by an immigrant family who came from Poland.{{cn|date=December 2025}}

He studied at the [London School of Economics](/source/London_School_of_Economics_and_Political_Science),<ref name=JTA /> and was a student of [Harold Laski](/source/Harold_Laski).

He first worked in the 1930s as a journalist, where he was editor of the ''Zionist Review''.<ref name=JTA /> In 1936, he emigrated to Israel, and lived in a [kibbutz](/source/kibbutz) for a year.<ref name=JTA />

He joined the Army of the newly founded state.
