Moshchun was originally named Pylnia ({{Langx|uk|Пильня}}) after the many [sawmill](/source/sawmill)s in the village.{{Citation needed|date=February 2023}}

During the [2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine](/source/2022_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine), the village was the site of the important [Battle of Moshchun](/source/Battle_of_Moshchun).
