# Moschheim

**Moschheim** is an *Ortsgemeinde* – a community belonging to a *[Verbandsgemeinde](/source/Verbandsgemeinde)* – in the [Westerwaldkreis](/source/Westerwaldkreis) in [Rhineland-Palatinate](/source/Rhineland-Palatinate), [Germany](/source/Germany).

## Geography

The community lies north of [Montabaur](/source/Montabaur) on the *Kannenbäckerstraße* (“Jug Bakers’ Road”, a reference to the local ceramics industry). The community has since 1971 belonged to what was then the newly founded [*Verbandsgemeinde* of Wirges](/source/Wirges_(Verbandsgemeinde)), a kind of collective municipality. Its seat is in the [like-named town](/source/Wirges).

In the north of the municipal area stands the Malberg, which at 422 m above [sea level](/source/Sea_level) is one of the greatest elevations in the area.

## History

In 1362, Moschheim had its first documentary mention.

## Politics

The municipal council is made up of 13 council members, including the extraofficial mayor (*Bürgermeister*), who were elected in a [majority vote](/source/Plurality_voting_system) in a municipal election on 13 June 2004.

## Economy and infrastructure

East of the community runs *[Bundesstraße](/source/Bundesstra%C3%9Fe)* 255, linking Montabaur and [Rennerod](/source/Rennerod). The nearest [Autobahn](/source/Autobahn) [interchange](/source/Interchange_(road)) is *Montabaur* on the [A 3](/source/Bundesautobahn_3) ([Cologne](/source/Cologne)–[Frankfurt](/source/Frankfurt_am_Main)), some 3 km away.

Moschheim had a station at the Cross Westerwald railway (Montabaur - [Wallmerod](/source/Wallmerod) - [Westerburg](/source/Westerburg_station) - [Rennerod](/source/Rennerod) - Herborn), nowadays this line is only in service for fright traffic.

The nearest access to train service is at [Wirges](/source/Wirges) on the [Limburg-Staffel–Siershahn railway](/source/Limburg-Staffel%E2%80%93Siershahn_railway) (RB29).

The nearest [InterCityExpress](/source/InterCityExpress) stop is the [railway station](/source/Railway_station) at Montabaur on the [Cologne-Frankfurt high-speed rail line](/source/Cologne-Frankfurt_high-speed_rail_line).
