==Biography==
Born in [Lunenburg](/source/Lunenburg%2C_Nova_Scotia), [Nova Scotia](/source/Nova_Scotia), Wilson was the president of the [Royal Bank of Canada](/source/Royal_Bank_of_Canada) between 1934 and 1946, becoming the first professional banker to head the bank.<ref>{{Cite book|title=Quick to the Frontier: Canada's Royal Bank|last=McDowall|first=Duncan}}</ref>

During [World War II](/source/World_War_II), Wilson was appointed vice-chairman of the British Supply Council in North America in 1941, and became its chairman after the death of chairman [Arthur Blaikie Purvis](/source/Arthur_Blaikie_Purvis) in 1941. He was also the head of the Atlantic Ferry Organisation (ATFERO), the civilian precursor of the [RAF Ferry Command](/source/RAF_Ferry_Command), and the North American representative of the British [Ministry of Aircraft Production](/source/Minister_of_Aircraft_Production). For his wartime services, he was appointed [CMG](/source/Order_of_St_Michael_and_St_George) in 1944.

Between 1943 and 1946 Wilson was the Chancellor of [McGill University](/source/McGill_University) in succession to [Sir Edward Beatty](/source/Edward_Wentworth_Beatty), having been a Governor since 1937.
