# Morris Mott

**Morris Kenneth Mott** (born May 25, 1946) is a Canadian former professional [ice hockey](/source/Ice_hockey) player who played 199 games in the [National Hockey League](/source/National_Hockey_League). He played with the [Winnipeg Jets](/source/Winnipeg_Jets_(1972%E2%80%9396)) of the [World Hockey Association](/source/World_Hockey_Association) and the [California Golden Seals](/source/California_Golden_Seals) of the NHL. He joined the [Canadian national team](/source/Canada_men's_national_ice_hockey_team) in 1965, playing with the team until it was dissolved in 1970. After completing his hockey career Mott earned a PhD, and taught sports history at [Brandon University](/source/Brandon_University).[1]

He is the brother of [Darwin Mott](/source/Darwin_Mott), who played one game in the WHA; the two played together for [Västra Frölunda IF](/source/Fr%C3%B6lunda_HC) in [Sweden](/source/Sweden) in 1975-76.[2]

## Academic career

Besides a [BA](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) and an [MA](/source/Master_of_Arts) degree from the [University of Manitoba](/source/University_of_Manitoba), he also obtained a [PhD](/source/Doctor_of_Philosophy) degree in [sports history](/source/Sports_history) from [Queen's University at Kingston](/source/Queen's_University_at_Kingston) in 1982.[3] Mott is a [professor emeritus](/source/Professor_emeritus) of the Department of History at [Brandon University](/source/Brandon_University) in [Brandon, Manitoba](/source/Brandon,_Manitoba).[4]
