The **Monument to Chabuca Granda** ([Spanish](/source/Spanish_language): *Monumento a Chabuca Granda*) is a monument made up by a pair of [stone statues](/source/Stone_statue) located at the [Plazuela Chabuca Granda](/source/Plazuela_Chabuca_Granda) in [Barranco District](/source/Barranco_District), [Lima](/source/Lima), dedicated to Peruvian singer-songwriter [Chabuca Granda](/source/Chabuca_Granda). Next to Granda's statue is an [equestrian statue](/source/Equestrian_statue) of [José Antonio de Lavalle y García](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Antonio_de_Lavalle_y_Garc%C3%ADa), the subject of Granda's song *[José Antonio](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Antonio_(song))*.

## History

Granda lived part of her childhood on a ranch at the *Bajada de los Baños* in the district of Barranco until she was twelve years old, near the [Bridge of Sighs](/source/Bridge_of_Sighs_(Lima)), to which in 1960 she dedicated [a song of the same name](/source/El_puente_de_los_suspiros_(song)).[1][2]

As a result of this tribute to a major landmark of the district, the municipality decided to erect a sculpture in gratitude to her.[3][4] The monument, a stone work by Fausto Jaulis, an artist from [Ayacucho](/source/Ayacucho),[5] was inaugurated on October 24, 1992,[6] in the [Plazuela Chabuca Granda](/source/Plazuela_Chabuca_Granda), next to the Bridge of Sighs. Next to it stands the monument to the [José Antonio de Lavalle y García](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Antonio_de_Lavalle_y_Garc%C3%ADa), to whom Chabuca dedicated the song *[José Antonio](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Antonio_(song))*.[7]

In [Santiago de Chile](/source/Santiago_de_Chile), a replica of the statue was unveiled in 2015.[8][9]

In 2021, Lavalle's statue was vandalised, with its head removed. It was quickly restored to its original state and an investigation was launched.[10]
