# Monte Smith

**Monte Gene Smith** (born April 24, 1967)[1] is an American former professional [football](/source/American_football) player who was a [guard](/source/Guard_(American_football)) for the [Denver Broncos](/source/Denver_Broncos) of the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL). He played [college football](/source/College_football) for the [North Dakota Fighting Hawks](/source/North_Dakota_Fighting_Hawks_football) and was selected by the Broncos in the ninth round of the [1989 NFL draft](/source/1989_NFL_draft) with the 236th overall pick.[2] He played the 1989 season with the team.[3] After a year away from the NFL, he was again a member of the team during the [1991 NFL season](/source/1991_NFL_season), but did not see any playing time in a regular season game.
