He is the [sporting director](/source/sporting_director) of [La Liga](/source/La_Liga) club [Espanyol](/source/RCD_Espanyol).

He played solely for [Sevilla](/source/Sevilla_FC) in a nine-year professional career. Later, he worked as [director of football](/source/director_of_football) at that club (two spells), [Roma](/source/AS_Roma) and [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_F.C.).

Born in [San Fernando](/source/San_Fernando%2C_Spain), [Andalusia](/source/Andalusia), Monchi signed with [Sevilla](/source/Sevilla_FC) from his local club [San Fernando](/source/CD_San_Fernando). In the summer of 1990, Monchi was promoted to the main squad in [La Liga](/source/La_Liga).
