**Mollye Asher** is an American [film producer](/source/Film_producer), director, writer and editor. She is best known for producing the drama film *[Nomadland](/source/Nomadland),* which was nominated for six [Oscars](/source/Academy_Awards) at the [93rd Academy Awards](/source/93rd_Academy_Awards), and won three -- [Best Picture](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Picture), [Best Director](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Director) and [Best Actress](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Actress), with Asher winning Best Picture.

## Early life and education

Asher grew up in [Miami, Florida](/source/Miami%2C_Florida). She has two sisters.[1] In an interview, Asher said that she was raised in a family with "very strong political views" who would often talk about the news around the dinner table.[2] Originally Asher intended to be a singer, undergoing classical vocal training at the [New World School of the Arts](/source/New_World_School_of_the_Arts) in Miami, then continuing to [New York University](/source/New_York_University)'s [Tisch School of the Arts](/source/Tisch_School_of_the_Arts) to pursue a career in musical theater. However, while there she discovered a love for acting and film, earning a BA in drama and an MFA in Film.[2]

## Career

Asher has professionally partnered with director [Chloé Zhao](/source/Chlo%C3%A9_Zhao) on three films: *[Songs My Brothers Taught Me](/source/Songs_My_Brothers_Taught_Me)*, *[The Rider](/source/The_Rider_(2017_film))*, and *[Nomadland](/source/Nomadland)*. For producing *Nomadland*, Asher received the [Academy Award](/source/Academy_Award) for [Best Picture](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Picture).

Asher is a member of the [Academy of Motion Pictures](/source/Academy_of_Motion_Pictures).[3]
