The iconic ferry is owned by Stradbroke Ferries<ref name="mfh"/> and can carry up to 20 vehicles per crossing.

A ferry service began operations at the site in 1878 when [Cobb & Co](/source/Cobb_%26_Co) coaches provided service between [Ipswich](/source/Ipswich%2C_Queensland) and [Brisbane](/source/Brisbane).<ref name="cfrr"/>

During the [2010–2011 Queensland floods](/source/2010%E2%80%932011_Queensland_floods) the ferry broke free from its cable guidelines.
