**Babatunde Olusegun Adewale**[1][2] (born June 14, 1975), popularly known by his stage name **Modenine**, is an English-born Nigerian rapper.[3][4] He is a seven times Headies lyricist on the roll winner and he is widely regarded by industry heads as one of the greatest African lyricists of all time.[5][6][7]

In 2014, he released "Super Human" with [Jamaican-American](/source/Jamaican_Americans) rapper, [Canibus](/source/Canibus).[8][9]

## Early life and education

Babatunde was born in London on June 14, 1975, and his family relocated to Lagos during his preteen years.[10] He is the third child of his parents who are from [Osun State](/source/Osun_State).[11] He has credited [Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five](/source/Grandmaster_Flash_and_the_Furious_Five) for inspiring his love for [hip-hop](/source/Hip-hop).[12] He attended Agboju secondary school.[2] He earned a degree in Building Technology at [Federal Polytechnic Bida](/source/Federal_Polytechnic_Bida), Niger State, Nigeria.[2]

## Career

He worked with Rhythm 84.7fm in [Abuja](/source/Abuja), Nigeria as a radio presenter.[2]

In 2004, Babatunde released his debut project, *Malcolm IX*.[13] In 2006 "Pentium IX" was released .[13][14] In 2007, he released another album called É Pluribus Unum.[13] The album's main single, 'Cry', won three awards at the [Channel O Music Video Awards](/source/Channel_O_Music_Video_Awards) in 2006.[15] It also won the award for "Best Rap Single" at [The Headies](/source/The_Headies).[16] Modenine has eight studio albums.[13]

In 2018, Babatunde released a new album titled "Hence4th" which was produced by Black Intelligence.[17] In 2019, he released an album titled The Monument[18][19]

He released an album in 2022 titled *Popkorn! The Album* as a soundtack for his podcast of the same name. [20]

In 2024, he released *Shiny Object Syndrome* which received a nomination for Best Rap Album at the [17th Headies Awards](/source/The_Headies_2024). [21] [22]
