# Mitchell Hope

**Mitchell Hope** (born 27 June 1994) is an Australian actor.[1] He is best known for his role as Ben in the first three movies of the *[Descendants](/source/Descendants_(franchise))* franchise and voiced the character in animated productions.[2][3][4] He also starred in the 2021 Australian comedy film *[Love You Like That](/source/Love_You_Like_That_(film))*,[5][6] and was part of the ensemble cast of *[Let It Snow](/source/Let_It_Snow_(2019_film))*.[7]

## Personal life

Hope was born in Melbourne, Australia, and has two younger brothers.[8][9] Hope is also a childhood classmate and friend of [BTS](/source/BTS) member [Jin](/source/Jin_(singer)) after the two met in 2007.[10]

## Career

Hope had his first television role on the 2014 Austrialian miniseries *[INXS: Never Tear Us Apart](/source/INXS:_Never_Tear_Us_Apart)*, a biopic about the rock band [INXS](/source/INXS). Hope portrayed the younger version of keyboardist and main composer of the band, [Andrew Farriss](/source/Andrew_Farriss).[11][12]

From 2015 to 2021, Hope portrayed Ben Florian in the [Disney Channel](/source/Disney_Channel) franchise musical films *[Descendants](/source/Descendants_(franchise))*. His character is the son of King [Adam](/source/Beast_(Disney_character)) and Queen [Belle](/source/Belle_(Disney_character)) of [*Beauty and the Beast*](/source/Beauty_and_the_Beast_(1991_film)) and serves as the love interest to [Maleficent](/source/Maleficent)'s daughter, [Mal](/source/Mal_(Descendants)). He stars alongside [Dove Cameron](/source/Dove_Cameron), [Sofia Carson](/source/Sofia_Carson), [Booboo Stewart](/source/Booboo_Stewart), and [Cameron Boyce](/source/Cameron_Boyce).[13][14] The series proved to be a huge success, with the original trilogy accumulating over 781 million hours of viewing in the United States. Each film was also the most-watched television movie of the year during its premiere in 2015, 2017, and 2019.[15] There has also been a number of spin-offs, animations, and live musical tours. In 2019 Hope co-starred in [Netflix](/source/Netflix)'s Christmas romantic comedy film *[Let It Snow](/source/Let_It_Snow_(2019_film))* as Tobin. He starred alongside [Isabela Merced](/source/Isabela_Merced), [Shameik Moore](/source/Shameik_Moore), [Odeya Rush](/source/Odeya_Rush), [Liv Hewson](/source/Liv_Hewson), and his love interest [Kiernan Shipka](/source/Kiernan_Shipka).[19] The film received good reviews, with a 85% critics approval rating on [Rotten Tomatoes](/source/Rotten_Tomatoes).[20] He followed this up by starring in the 2021 Australian romantic comedy *[Love You Like That](/source/Love_You_Like_That_(film))*[citation needed]and a small role in the road trip film *[Don't Make Me Go](/source/Don't_Make_Me_Go_(film)).*[21]
