"**Missing Words**" is a song and [single](/source/Single_(music)) written by [Neol Davies](/source/Neol_Davies) and performed by the English [2 tone](/source/Two-tone_(music_genre)) [ska](/source/Ska) revival band [the Selecter](/source/The_Selecter).[1] Released in 1980 it reached No. 23, on the [UK singles chart](/source/UK_singles_chart), staying there for eight weeks.[2][1]

## Background

In contrast to the Selecter's two previous singles, "[On My Radio](/source/On_My_Radio_(song))" and "[Three Minute Hero](/source/Three_Minute_Hero)", "Missing Words" is a downbeat song about heartbreak issued as the [2 Tone Records](/source/2_Tone_Records) ska revival began to fade.[3]
